Information for forces personnel

Take command of your career with a distance learning course from NEC

Whether you’re looking to gain new qualifications to help you while on service or considering a change in career direction, you can be sure that if you choose to study with NEC you’ll be joining an organisation with a long-running and successful history of helping forces personnel develop their careers.

The flexibility of our courses makes them perfectly suited to serving personnel. You can study at your own pace, wherever suits you, and fit your learning in around the rest of your life.

Whether you’re in the UK or overseas, our learning materials will come to you. Postage costs for BFPO addresses are also included in your course fees and will not incur any extra costs, even if you are based overseas.

Standard Learning Credits and Enhanced Learning Credits

Members of the armed forces who wish to study with us may be entitled to contributions towards the cost of their course through either the standard learning credits (SLC) scheme or the enhanced learning credits (ELC) scheme. NEC is an approved ELCAS learning provider, ID 1160.

The SLC scheme can provide funding of up to 80 per cent of the cost of a course, to a maximum of £175, for courses up to Level 2 on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF), such as GCSEs and IGCSEs.

The ELC scheme provides a similar service, but for courses leading to qualifications at Level 3 or above on the NQF, such as A levels. For more information about the ELC scheme visit the ELC Administration Service website.

If you are serving in the armed forces and wish to take advantage of either of these schemes, you should speak to your education officer before enrolling.
