For over 60 years, National Extension College (NEC) has worked towards the goal of transforming lives and opening up new educational possibilities for people of all ages.

For over half of those years, NEC has worked in partnership with the Prisoners’ Education Trust (PET) to overcome challenges in order to offer further learning opportunities for people in prison.

Developing a digital course

Most recently, NEC and PET have been working together alongside Coracle Inside, who aim to promote learning and digital literacy to all, ensuring no one is isolated from learning.

Together we have been developing new resources which will allow people in prison to learn and study in their own space through engaging digital courses that can be accessed with a laptop.

Designed with convenience in mind, this new format is currently being trialled with NEC’s Writing for Wellbeing course at HMP Littlehey, with the goal to expand course offerings in the near future.
