National Coding Week started on 16th September, and is the perfect time to highlight the importance of coding – especially with this year’s focus on artificial intelligence (AI). Coding is no longer just for tech experts; it’s essential for everyone, whether you’re a student, professional, or someone exploring a new interest.

As someone who discovered coding later in life, I’ve seen how transformative it can be. Once I realised its role in shaping industries, particularly those driven by AI and data, I knew it was a skill worth mastering. If you’re considering getting into coding or sharpening your problem-solving skills, now is the ideal moment!

Why Coding Matters – Especially with AI in the Spotlight

With AI’s rapid rise, coding is more crucial than ever. It’s not just about building apps or websites but creating intelligent systems like chatbots and machine learning models. AI is revolutionising fields like healthcare, finance, and education. Learning to code means becoming part of this revolution rather than a spectator.

National Coding Week’s focus on AI underscores coding’s importance in innovation. And what better language to start with than Python? Known for its simplicity, flexibility, and powerful libraries, Python is widely used in AI development. If you’re curious about AI, Python will give you the tools to create your own algorithms and models.

Python: The Ideal Starting Point for Everyone

Python is one of the best programming languages for beginners due to its clear, simple syntax. Whether you’re a school student or an adult returning to study, Python is accessible yet powerful, particularly in AI, data science, and machine learning.

I’ve had the privilege of helping develop NEC’s Level 2 Programming for Beginner with Python course, an excellent introduction for anyone keen to dive into coding. Whether you’re looking to change careers or just understand the tech behind AI, the course is hands-on and designed to get you up to speed quickly.

Why National Coding Week is the Perfect Time to Start

National Coding Week encourages everyone, regardless of age, to start coding. This year’s AI theme highlights this field’s immense potential for growth. Whether you’re a student exploring Computer Science or someone like me who found coding later in life, now is the perfect time to begin.

Python, with its increasing use in AI, is a fantastic starting point!

AI and Beyond: Why Coding is for Everyone

Coding is accessible to everyone – regardless of age or experience. It teaches critical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity, skills valuable in any career. With AI becoming integral to industries from healthcare to entertainment, there’s no better time to get involved. Even if you’re not aiming to become a software developer, understanding AI and basic coding can give you a competitive edge.

It’s never too late to start coding. I’m proof of that. Take the first step today, and see where it leads. Whether you’re interested in AI or simply want to learn a new skill, coding has something to offer everyone.
