What our students say

"NEC were incredibly responsive and knowledgeable and the only online provider who went the extra mile to check on potential exam clashes and practical endorsements. We did a lot of research and found NEC the most helpful, experienced and also not pushy at all. I can’t recommend them enough – best company, service and content we have come across for a long time and true educators."

"I decided to re-enrol with the NEC to study for a Spanish A level after successfully completing a Spanish iGCSE with them last year. The person I contacted was very friendly and helpful. I asked if it was possible to have the same tutor as last year (as she was so good) and this was arranged quickly and efficiently. I'm really looking forward to studying for my A level with NEC as I had such a positive experience with them previously."

"Great course! The user platform is very easy to negotiate and the content is easy to follow which is exactly what you need when studying."

"Great learning materials from NEC. Detailed examples and lots of practice questions. The student forum is useful too as the tutors will respond to you on there also."

"I was looking for a way to improve my French, but as I work full time it has to be flexible. So after researching I found this college and its A level French course. The customer service were extremely helpful about answering questions I had about the course before I committed. Now I'm on the course I find the materials and exercises really good and easy to follow step by step and the tutor has given me really helpful feedback and tips. I would definitely recommend this college to others, especially if you need a flexible way to study, or to study at your own pace."

Frequently asked questions

Why has NEC developed resit courses?

The purpose of the resit courses is to support students who have studied the content before and now need to have a more targeted approach to their learning. The courses are designed to enable students to understand their areas for improvement and to enable them to focus on these target areas.

What personal support will the student receive?

Initially students will complete an online quiz - like an assessment which will explain to them where the areas of focus should be. During their 1-2-1 with the tutor this is explored further and a detailed study plan for the course is put in place. Group sessions are available where the students can ask direct questions. In between the sessions their tutor can be messaged directly on the learning platform if there are areas they are finding difficult.

Completing and submitting the past papers will allow the tutor to provide comprehensive, personal written feedback which the student can use to support their studies.

Does the student need to evidence that they are re-sitting the GCSE?

The resit courses are designed with the understanding that the student has covered the content previously. Having any information regarding prior examination, such as grades received for each paper, will support the conversation with their tutor.

What if the student sat the GCSE over five years ago?

We would recommend that the student enrols on the standard GCSE or considers the Level 2 Functional Skills in those subjects.

What is the difference between the GCSE resit course and the standard GCSE course?

Please do read our GCSE Maths and GCSE English course pages.

Students on the resit GCSE courses have access to the Foundational  material only. Students on a resit course will not complete assignments but instead will complete past papers (they do not see or have access to assignments).

A resit course has a 1-2-1 tutorial included in the course. The standard course does not, but students on the standard course can request this at a fee of £45.

A resit course has two live group seminars included. The standard course does not, but students on the standard course can book onto a Masterclass for a fee of £15.

The focus of a resit course is to support students to gain a pass grade. The feedback from the tutor and the activities are focused on this, so will pinpoint areas which require support to get to that level.

Students on a resit course are enrolled for six months*. Those on the standard GCSE are enrolled for 18 months.

What is the difference between the GCSE resit course and Level 2 Functional Skills?

Please do read our Functional Skills course page.

If you are wanting to move forward within your workplace, a Functional Skills qualification may be acceptable. Many vocational courses and universities also accept Functional Skills Level 2 as equivalent to a GCSE.

Functional Skills qualification specifications take a different approach to learning than the GCSE specification. Functional Skills focus on more everyday application of skills. Functional Skills are predominantly aimed at adult learners to provide the skills needed for employment.

The information above may help students decide which course to enrol on. However, a conversation with the Course Advice Team will help students if they are at all unsure.
